Freedom of Information Requests

On January 1, 2015, the Ontario Power Authority (OPA) merged with the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) to create a new organization that will combine the OPA and IESO mandates and continue the high quality work both organizations are known for.

The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act gives people the right to request access to information that is in the custody and control of government institutions. The Act also protects the privacy of individuals by requiring the government to follow specific rules regarding the collection, use and disclosure of personal information. The Act applies to Ontario's provincial ministries and provincial agencies, boards and commissions designated under the Act.

To submit a freedom of information request to the Independent Electricity System Operator, please send your request in writing to:

Freedom of Information Officer
Independent Electricity System Operator
Suite 1600
120 Adelaide Street West
Toronto, ON M5H 1T1

Please ensure that your request includes:

  • a reference to the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act;

  • enough detail to assist the OPA in processing the request; and,

  • the $5 application fee (by cheque or money order made payable to the Independent Electricity System Operator).
